This is a blend of 2 lovely Kenyan lots selected for decaffeination by Royal Coffee and Swiss water. Mutheka Kigwandi AB is the first of the two components, with 842 smallholder farmers delivering cherry to the Kigwandi Factory in Nyeri. Mutheka Farmers Cooperative organizes over 5,000 smallholders throughout Kenya, with 6 different coffee factories currently in operation. The second is from the Othaya Farmers Cooperative society, collected and processed at the Rukira Factory in Nyeri as well. Rukira serves over 800 smallholder farmers and is owned/operated by the Othaya Farmers Cooperative, comprised of over 14,000 members across 19 different washing stations. These 2 lots were selected with great care and processed using the Swiss Water method, resulting in an incredibly clean and surprisingly acid-forward experience in the cup. I am extremely picky when it comes to decaf, and our "hot n fast" roasting approach further complicates that that search. I knew right off the first sip when sampling this coffee that it was gonna be a hitter.
Cup Notes: Right out the gate this coffee hits you with ripping green apple acidity, and then softly settles into a demerrara syrup tone with a lovely expressed orange peel over the top. Very well balanced while still retaining the characteristic high acidity of the region, little to no "swiss water" flavor here.
