Lucas German Melo
Grown at a breathtaking 2300 metres above sea level, this Typica from Lucas German Melo is a true high-elevation wonder. Lucas planted his farm, El Cairo, back in 1997—long before the region was known for coffee. Everyone thought he was a little wild for trying. Turns out, he was just ahead of his time.
This lot is the result of a meticulous double fermentation: first 50 hours of aerobic fermentation in concrete tanks, then a second stage after depulping to really develop those bold, fruit-forward flavours. After a careful wash and slow drying on raised beds, the cup is bursting with notes of strawberry, grape, and dark chocolate.
Lucas runs the farm with his sister and nephew, and together they’ve produced some of Colombia’s most celebrated coffees. With accolades from multiple Taza de la Excelencia competitions and a dream to someday hit 94 points, Lucas continues to push the boundaries of quality in Nariño—and we’re thrilled to share his work with you.
